Babek Orabanli (Iskandarov) is a professional mountaineer, mountain guide, and instructor. He was born in 1986 in the village of Oraban in the Sheki region and graduated from the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Education and Sport with a degree in “Sports Tourism.” He has been the head of the “Mountaineering School” operating under the Azerbaijan Federation of Aviation and Extreme Sports, as well as the “Ecosport” Sports Club under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He completed mountaineering, rock climbing, ice climbing, search and rescue courses with the Turkish Mountaineering Federation, and mountain guide courses with the International Mountaineering Federation. He is the first Azerbaijani mountaineer to solo climb Mount Bazarduzu, Azerbaijan’s highest peak, in winter. Over the years, he has climbed high peaks in Azerbaijan as well as Lenin Peak (7134 m), Elbrus (5642 m), Mount Ararat (5134 m), and Savalan (4811 m).
